Commited to Rural Economic Development

The centerpiece of LQM’s philosophy is the belief that bioenergy can revive depressed rural economies. LQM develops a burgeoning local bioenergy industry to revive communities by creating purposeful work that brings people together with their natural resources. LQM’s alternative feedstock program utilizes sustainable locally grown feedstocks maintaining as much of the gross domestic product in the local economy.

LQM’s vision is build and operate a portfolio of short-haul/low capacity biofuel plants in highly targeted geographic markets which command premium wholesale prices. Higher biofuel prices are a result of long term logistical challenges faced by the large Corn Belt ethanol producers. Our plants are co-located with cattle feedyards. As a result, we bolster the local economies with a proud agricultural heritage.

For gasoline terminals, LQM’s short-haul ethanol is the only producer that understands the practical limitations of ethanol blending by offering just-in-time ethanol to terminals not serviced by rail.

LQM works with state Governors and local community leaders to identify additional economic development opportunities available as a result of LQM’s presence. LQM works with local community colleges to establish biofuel professional training programs; supports the local feeding and dairy industry; and encourages alternative feedstock agronomic research through local extension office.

As part of its commitment, LQM also encourages additional rural economic development through industrial symbiosis - the sharing of by-product resources among one or more industrial actors in order to add value, reduce costs and improve environmental performance. For example, the cattle manure available from the co-located feedyard provides an ample supply of alternative fuel for syn-gas generation. LQM wastewater is used for irrigation of local crops.
